Drew Smith is the Interim Vice President of Finance at the University of Michigan. In this role Drew oversees the entire Finance organization for Business & Finance, leading purchasing, procurement, accounting, payroll, preparation of audited financial statements, internal controls, sponsored programs, real estate, tax management, treasury functions, financial planning and analysis and enterprise strategic risk management. Prior to this role Drew served as the Assistant Vice President and Treasurer for the university.
Before joining the Treasurer’s Office, Drew served as the deputy chief financial officer and head of treasury for the City of Boston. In these roles, he supported the city’s chief financial officer in overseeing the management of the city’s financial resources, including cash management, debt management, and revenue collection. He also directed the investment management, capital planning, and granting activities of the City of Boston’s multi-purpose testamentary and non-testamentary trusts.
Prior to working at the City of Boston, Smith served as the deputy assistant treasurer for debt management at the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, where he helped manage $14 billion in financing transactions. He received his B.S. in business administration with a major in finance and investment management—from the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, AR and is currently an Executive MBA candidate at the University of Michigan’s Stephen M. Ross School of Business.

Genevieve Nolan is the Interim Assistant Vice President and Treasurer at the University of Michigan. In this role Genevieve is responsible for all operations across the Treasurer’s Office, including capital markets activities, working capital and cash management, banking services and relationships, depository programs, payments to research participants, merchant services, institutional financial planning and forecasting services and management of the university’ captive insurance company and risk management activities. Prior to taking on the Interim Treasurer’s role, Genevieve was the Deputy Treasurer at the university.
Genevieve was a vice president / senior analyst at Moody’s Investors Service in the US Public Finance Group prior to joining the university. For 12 years she served as lead analyst and committee chair for local government, state, utility and transit issuers across the United States. In this capacity she also served as a municipal bankruptcy and restructuring expert following her work as the lead analyst for the City of Detroit, MI and Commonwealth of Puerto Rico during their respective debt and operational restructurings.
Prior to Moody’s, Genevieve was a senior research associate for the Civic Federation, a non-profit public finance research institution based in Chicago, IL. She also served as one of the nation’s first employment discrimination testers and a coordinator of a national fair housing testing program.
Genevieve holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Political Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a Juris Doctor from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and Masters of Science in Public Policy and Management from Carnegie Mellon University Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy.
