Geoffrey Chatas

Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Geoff Chatas serves as one of three executive vice presidents reporting to the president and serves as the president’s chief advisor on financial matters. He oversees a portfolio inclusive of U-M’s investment office, finance and accounting, enterprise strategic risk management, staff ombuds, facilities and campus operations, human resources and shared services.

Prior to joining U-M in October 2021, he served as the senior vice president and chief operating officer for Georgetown University, where he was responsible for a budget of $1.3 billion and more than 3,000 staff members. While at Georgetown, he served as the chair of the Executive Leadership Committee, co-chaired a health sciences strategic review and led planning for a new downtown Washington, D.C., campus.

He previously served as the senior vice president for business and finance and chief financial officer for The Ohio State University, overseeing a $6 billion budget and an organization of more than 2,000 staff members. At OSU, he developed innovative financial structures to raise capital and created a successful private sector partnership on energy assets, developing an approach that other higher education institutions have since emulated in their efforts to reduce carbon emissions.

In 2015, Gov. John Kasich appointed him to run Ohio’s Task Force on Affordability and Efficiency in Higher Education, a group comprised of nine members charged with examining ways for Ohio’s public colleges and universities to lower tuition costs.

Prior to his career in higher education, Chatas served as managing director for the Infrastructure Investment Fund at JP Morgan Asset Management and served in various finance roles at Progress Energy, Inc., American Electric Power, Banc One Capital Corporation, and Citibank.

He received his bachelor of arts degree in history and economics from Georgetown University, his master of philosophy in history from Oxford University, and his M.B.A. from INSEAD (the European Institute of Business Administration).

Bobby Hewlett oversees the entire Finance organization for Business & Finance, leading purchasing, procurement, accounting, payroll, the external audited financial statements, internal controls, sponsored programs, real estate, tax management, treasury functions (including cash and debt management and insurance), financial planning and analysis, and enterprise strategic risk management.

He has worked at U-M for 14 years, most recently as the Controller at Michigan Medicine, which includes the UM Hospitals, Health Centers, and Medical Group, the UM Medical School, a shared administrative services division, Michigan Health Corporation, and UM Health Corporation. Bobby’s responsibilities include the oversight of financial reporting, strategic financial planning, budgets and forecasts, financial systems, clinical analytics, and real estate.

Prior to joining Michigan Medicine in January 2011, Bobby provided professional financial services to clients across the country in his role at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he assisted in financial statement filings with the SEC, debt issuances, domestic tax provision analyses, and business unit integrations.

Bobby holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master of accounting degree from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. He is an actively licensed Certified Public Accountant in the State of Michigan, and graduate of the GE Healthcare / Health Management Academy Finance Fellowship.

Drew Smith is the treasurer and an assistant vice president for finance at the University of Michigan. His major areas of oversight are treasury, risk management, and enterprise 
financial planning & analysis with primary responsibility over banking relationships, merchant services and depository programs, cash and investment management, debt management, capital planning, all risk management and claims activities, management of the university’s captive insurance company, and the business & finance budgetary planning and analysis functions. 

Before joining the Treasurer’s Office, Smith served as the deputy chief financial officer and head of treasury for the City of Boston. In these roles, he supported the city’s chief financial officer in overseeing the management of the city’s financial resources, including cash management, debt management, and revenue collection. He also directed the investment management, capital planning, and granting activities of the City of Boston’s multi-purpose testamentary and non-testamentary trusts.

Prior to working at the City of Boston, Smith served as the deputy assistant treasurer for debt management at the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, where he helped manage $14 billion in financing transactions. He received his B.S. in business administration—with a major in finance and investment management—from the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, AR and is currently an Executive MBA candidate at the University of Michigan’s Stephen M. Ross School of Business.

Genevieve Nolan is the deputy treasurer at the University of Michigan. Prior to taking
this role, she was a vice president / senior analyst at Moody’s Investors Service in the
US Public Finance Group. Here she served as lead analyst and committee chair for
local government, state and transit issuers across the United States. In this capacity she
also served as a municipal bankruptcy and restructuring expert following her work as
the lead analyst for the City of Detroit, MI and Commonwealth of Puerto Rico during
their respective restructurings. Prior to Moody’s, Genevieve was a senior research
associate for the Civic Federation, a non-profit public finance research institution based
in Chicago, IL. She also served as one of the nation’s first employment discrimination
testers and a coordinator of a national fair housing testing program.

Genevieve holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Political Science from the
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a Juris Doctor from the University of
Pittsburgh School of Law and Masters of Science in Public Policy and Management
from Carnegie Mellon University Heinz College of Information Systems and Public
Policy.

Cindy Corridore is the associate treasurer at the University of Michigan. Cindy leads the
capital markets team, and her major areas of responsibility include debt and credit line
management, working capital investment, liquidity, and central bank management.

Before joining the Treasurer’s Office, Cindy was the director of capital markets and
foreign exchange strategy at Visteon Corporation, an $8 billion public corporation,
where she managed a $1 billion debt portfolio, $1 billion in investments, global cash
forecasting, strategy, and cash management, and foreign exchange strategy for $1.5
billion of exposure.

Prior to Visteon Corporation, Cindy worked in public accounting where she obtained her
Certified Public Accountant license. Cindy received a Bachelor of Business
Administration degree with a double concentration in finance and accounting from the
Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI.
